Aons are symbols from the novel "Elantris", written by Brandon Sanderson. The novel explains that these Aons allow the Elantrians to use the power of the Dor to cause many things to happen, from emitting light, to healing wounds, and even for teleportation. The Aons found in the back of the novel are just the simple versions of the Aons, however according to the novel, other patterns can be added to the Aon in question in order to perform more specific tasks, like teleporting over a predetermined distance, or healing specific parts of the body.
In the Areseorii Realm, these Aons still have the same function, only this time with the reasoning that the Ancients were the cause of all this, and had created some form of energy in another dimension that the locals called the Dor, where the Aons were able to draw that power from that other dimension to perform various tasks.

The following is the Aons I have managed to enhance and animate. The bluish-white glow is due to a description in "Elantris" of the Aon's colour when drawn in the middle of the air. The novel states that the lines were glowing white, however because you can't really show white lines on a white background, I made it blue instead... it was for viewing purposes, alright? Besides... who's not to say Aons in the Areseorii Realm aren't blue?
